Zizola has captured conflicts, revolutions, catastrophes, and each time, a fragment of himself merged with the world.

Hence the need to reopen a monumental archive, to delve into the visual grammar of “conflict,” where “conflict” refers not only to war, but also to disaster, negative change, consequence.
Man against man is not always played out with a weapon in hand and a fierce look in the eyes. It is not only a bullet. It is also capitalism, neglect, ambition. Environmental crisis, epidemic. Or social unrest.

When reality cracked, worn out by itself and on the brink of implosion, Francesco was there, with his camera in hand.
Diaries is a testament to those moments. Words and images. Chasing one another, without geographical or temporal boundaries. It accompanies an emotional flow, showing us how when the world turns grey and humanity drowns, socio-cultural differences fade and the memory of places and years dissolves.
Only fragments remain, blending into one another.

Diaries seeks to be an invitation to reflection.
To the awareness that history, in its guilt, always remains the same.

Zizola ha documentato conflitti, rivoluzioni, catastrofi, e ogni volta un frammento di sé si è fuso con il mondo.
Da qui l’esigenza di riaprire un archivio monumentale, per approfondire la grammatica visuale del “conflitto”, dove per “conflitto” si intende sia la guerra che il disastro, il cambiamento negativo, la conseguenza.
L’uomo contro l’uomo non si consuma con un’arma in mano e uno sguardo feroce negli occhi. Non è solo proiettile. Ma è anche capitalismo, disattenzione, ambizione. Crisi ambientale, epidemia. O disagio sociale.

Quando la realtà ha scricchiolato, stanca di sé stessa, pronta all’implosione, Francesco era lì, con la sua macchina fotografica tra le mani.
Diaries è la testimonianza di quei momenti. Parole e immagini. A rincorrersi, senza confini geografici o temporali.
Accompagnando un flusso emotivo, che ci dimostra come quando il mondo ingrigisce e l’umanità annaspa, le differenze socioculturali si perdono, la memoria dei luoghi e degli anni scompare.
Restano solo frammenti, che si fondono l’uno nell’altro.

Diaries vuole essere un invito alla riflessione.
Alla consapevolezza che la storia, nella sua colpa, resta sempre la stessa.
