“Born in 1991, Marine Billet belongs to the millennial generation, yet here she turns toward Gen Z, driven by a desire to understand what shapes the identity of young women today.
In Reliées, she weaves a narrative from intimate fragments. Voice notes, confidences, and personal archives shared by her subjects become the raw material of the project. From these pieces of life, she reconstructs worlds that reflect them, paying close attention to details, textures, objects, and clothing, in order to preserve the accuracy of each identity.
Célia, Amaya, Exaucé, Luna, and Amina were met through street casting. Very quickly, a sense of closeness emerged through their exchanges. They shared their stories, their spaces, their rituals, their doubts. From this fragile trust, constructed images were born—yet deeply rooted in reality.
The project exists in an in-between space: connecting who we are to who we once were, connecting women to one another, connecting adolescence to adulthood—this unstable and vibrant space where we are still searching for ourselves.
Inspired by Florentine painting, the aesthetic of the series bathes bodies and settings in a soft, almost painterly light. The deliberately vintage interiors introduce a subtle temporal shift: the images seem to float between present and memory, like spaces inhabited by traces of the past.
During the shoot, a form of sorority naturally emerged. Listening, care, and collective intelligence shaped a shared energy. This slow, necessary time made it possible to build far more than a series of images: a genuine human encounter.
In each tableau, the young women appear suspended between movement and stillness. A gesture waiting, a drifting gaze. These are the transitional moments the project seeks to capture—those silent instances where inner transformations begin to surface.
Reliées is an ode to the construction of the self, in all its fragility and universality. A tribute to those we once were, those we are, and those we are becoming.”
