Ashes

by Ilaria Demo De lorenzi

Ashes is Ilaria Demo De Lorenzi’s ongoing personal project, which stems from an anthropological research on the concept of “witch” meant as founding myth of women’s freedom from the constraints of patriarchal society. The author started exploring this term from its deeply sexist, divisive historical roots, that lead to the execution of countless innocent women. This project is the manifestation of a collective strong self awareness and self acceptance, that leads to embody and accept the definition of “witch” meant in its worst, most limiting and cruel meanings. A motion of rebellion and dissidence aimed at making one’s own all that can be seen as weapon and stigma. This struggle is still going on nowadays, as we can sadly see in the recent political drifts of some governments or more simply in news reports. This project was never meant to reveal a determined outcome in the winning or losing of this battle, rather it is designed as chronicle and tool for the community. Ashes wants to be a manifesto of aggregation, protest and incitement towards imposed chains.
